Dr. McNiel completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology at Walla Walla University in College Place, Washington, and her Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine at John Bastyr University in Bothell, Washington. During her residency in Naturopathic Family Medicine at Sonoran University of Health Sciences (formerly Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine) in Scottsdale Arizona, she trained intensively in women’s health, chronic disease, botanical medicine, dermatology, and environmental medicine. Dr. McNiel served on the Oregon Board of Naturopathic Medicine as a physician member. During her six years of board service, she was voted vice chair, and board liaison to the Oregon Naturopathic Formulary Counsel. She has been licensed and actively practicing as a naturopathic doctor since 2004.
In addition to her private medical practice, Dr. McNiel has enjoyed teaching collegiate-level pharmacognosy (the chemistry and pharmacology of drugs derived of natural origin), ethnobotany (the way indigenous cultures utilize plants), and botanical hands-on medicine. Dr. McNiel has participated as a volunteer physician for La Clinica Health Center’s migrant camp outreach in the Rogue Valley, and has worked with homeless teens and women in Seattle. In tandem with her residency, she volunteered with the Mission of Mercy Health Clinics in Phoenix, Arizona.
